Alkerdeel – album illustration ‘Morinde’

Original drawings for Alkerdeel’s second album ‘Morinde’. ‘Morinde’ is dialect for ‘mud-duck’, which is some species of duck that looks like suffering from leprosy. The title has no specific connection to the lyrics of the album. We thought it was fitting to describe the atmosphere of the music and it also sounds quite Norwegian, a lot of bands I – and the others in the band – like are from Norway so it’s some kind of tribute.

Black metal, the genre Alkerdeel is connected to, has often dark topics: from occultism and nihilism over war to depression and beyond. I wanted to cover these topics in the album artwork and also use a duck and ended up by showing a fight between the duck – the underdog – and a fox, another animal I have a strong fascination with. Guess who’s the winner?
